Food of the Gods is a 1976 science-fiction film written, produced, and directed by Bert I. Gordon and loosely based on the H.G. Wells novel The Food of the Gods and How it Came to Earth. Mr. And Mrs. Skinner (John McLiam & Ida Lupino) are a couple who discover a strange food source mysteriously appearing on an island in British Columbia. Believing it a gift of God, and naming the food ambrosia, the couple begin to feed their chickens, with unforeseen consequences, as the chickens begin to mutate into giant forms. Before long, insects and vermin are also consuming the ambrosia, creating an epidemic of monstrous sized creatures that eventually kill and consume Mr. Skinner. A professional football player (Marjoe Gortner) and his friends camping on the island suddenly find themselves under attack by giant wasps. As they investigate further, they are suddenly thrust into a struggle for survival against the horrifying monsters and a desperate quest to prevent their spread from the island.moreless
