  • TRIVIA (1)

    • This was filmed at the same time as The Three Musketeers in 1973. It was originally intended that the Dumas story be made into a single epic, but, as director Richard Lester wanted to film the whole story - pointing out that most people had only read an abridged version which had served for most previous screen adaptations - the ensuing film came out at over three-and-a-half hours' running time. Rather than shorten it, it was decided that it could cleanly bifurcated into two movies. The actors were not consulted about this - some of them sued over it.

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Rochefort: [after the various guns of a firing squad have failed to kill him]: I suppose I might eventually die of old age.

    • Aramis: [hearing the sound of sword clashing, far off]: Who would be fighting out of doors on a day like this?
      Athos: Only an idiot.
Aramis: Oh, is D'Artagnan in the area?
