The Friends of Eddie Coyle is a 1973 crime drama directed by Peter Yates. The film follows Eddie Coyle (Robert Mitchum), a small time gun runner for a Boston crime family. When Coyle is arrested for hijacking a truck in New Hampshire, a crime set-up by his friend Dillon (Peter Boyle, ) ATF agent Dave Foley (Peter Boyle) offers to let him go if he agrees to become a confidential informant. Reluctantly, Coyle sets up gun runner, Jackie Brown (Steven Keats) for selling guns to a gang led by Jimmy Scalise (Alex Rocco) and Artie Van (Joe Santos.) Not satisfied, Foley threatens to send Coyle to prison unless he comes up with more information. Desperate, Coyle agrees to inform on Scalise and Van. Foley, however, is steps ahead of him and has already had them arrested. Now the mob thinks Coyle is a snitch. With the world closing in on him, Coyle is left with no one to trust and no one to blame but himself.moreless
