The Frogmen is a 1951 adventure drama directed by Lloyd Bacon. When Lt. Cmdr. John Lawrence (Richard Widmark) takes command of a group of underwater demolition experts after their commander is killed in the line of duty, they are initially distrustful. The men's perception is reinforced when Lawrence disciplines them severely after a brawl with sailors on a transport ship. The following day, Lawrence divides the unit into two groups during a reconnaissance mission. Lawrence sends Lt. Klinger (Robert Patten) and his men on a dangerous mission. He and his men take the safer route. When Klinger and his men suffer a direct artillery hit, and most of his men are killed, the unit sees Lawrence as a coward. After the incident, everyone in the unit requests a transfer. Lawrence insists that they finish one last mission before they go. During the conversation, the ship is hit by a Japanese torpedo but the torpedo doesn't detonate. Lawrence volunteers to disarm it and succeeds with the help of Jake Flannigan (Dana Andrews). As Lawrence and his men head into their final mission, they must learn to trust each other in order to survive.moreless
