The Game is the story of Nicholas Van Orton (Michael Douglas), an affluent businessman who has pursued success in his career instead of nurturing his family and social life. As a result, his wife has divorced him, he has no close friends, and he is apathetic towards his only brother, Conrad (Sean Penn). Conrad suddenly appears on his brother's 48th birthday and offers him entrance into a game created by Consumer Recreation Services (CRS), a company of which Nicholas has never heard. Spurred by his curiosity, Nicholas visits CRS to see what the game is actually about. The company claims that it has rejected his admission, but a series of strange events leads Nicholas to soon realize that the game has indeed started. Nicholas's life begins to spiral out of the control as CRS causes havoc in his otherwise structured world. Nicholas must struggle to untangle the ultimate mystery of the game and its employees before his time runs out.
