The Ghost Writer is a 2010 political thriller directed by Roman Polanski. The film follows an unnamed ghost writer (Ewan McGregor) who is hired to complete the memoirs of Adam Lang (Pierce Brosnan), a former British Prime Minister, after the mysterious death of the original ghost writer. Set on an oceanfront estate on Martha's Vineyard in the middle of winter, the action heats up when the writer discovers that his predecessor found links between the Prime Minister and the CIA. As the scandal begins to unfold in the media, the writer has an affair with the Prime Minister's Wife, Ruth (Olivia Williams), who seems to have an agenda of her own. Things grow even more complicated when the writer begins to track the final days of his predecessor. One by one, witnesses begin to die as the writer tries to put the pieces together before he too becomes just another casualty.

Mr. Polanski's work with his performers is consistently subtle even when the performances seem anything but, which is true of this very fine film from welcome start to finish.
