The Ghoul is a 1933 horror film directed by T. Hayes Hunter that stars the legendary Boris Karloff. Karloff plays Professor Morlant, a British Egyptologist who has found a magical jewel within the tomb of an Oriental idol. The jewel is said to give immortality to whoever is buried with it. Morlant arranges for it to be placed with him in his grave after his death. Morlant does die, having caught a disfiguring ailment mysteriously. He has his manservant bandage the jewel to his hand when he is buried. He is buried in an Egyptian styled tomb on his estate, of course. However after his burial a random robber steals the jewel. This causes Morlant to rise from his grave to seek revenge during the next full moon! This film featured the screen debut of the British stage actor Ralph Richardson. This film had been considered lost since its initial release over seventy years ago though recently an original print was found at the British Film Institute.moreless
