The Girl From Manhattan is a 1948 American drama film from director Alfred E. Green that tells the story of re-united high school lovers Tom Walker (George Montgomery) and Carol Maynard (Dorothy Lamour). Carol is the small town girl who escaped to New York City to make it big, while ex-football star Tom enters the seminary after high school, and is now the local minister. Carol returns to her hometown to care for her ailing uncle Homer (Ernest Truex), a boarding house owner struggling under the weight of his mortgages. She's horrified to learn her uncle is in danger of losing his boarding house to a crooked loan shark named Sam Griffin (Howard Freeman) and she resolves to help him. Learning of Griffin's plans to sell her uncle's property to the church, Carol confronts her high school sweetheart about his plans, but it's all news to Tom. Together again, the old lovers resume their romance, all the while plotting to save Homer's property from the clutches of Sam Griffin.moreless
