The Girl from Monday is a 2005 American film written and directed by Hal Hartley. When an alien being (Tatian Abracos) arrives on Earth, she is alarmed to discover that people are treated as commodities, useful only for their consumerist ways. Jack Bell (Bill Sage) discusses that since sexually active people are the biggest consumers, each and every sexual encounter will be treated as an economic transaction. When Jack is unsuccessful in his attempt at a sexual transaction with Cecile (Sabrina Lloyd), his insurance company becomes worried and investigates what has gone wrong. Cecile is arrested for befriending a counter-revolutionary who shows her how to have to sex for pleasure and is inspired after reading Thoreau's book Walden. When Jack and the alien being find each other, they discover that Jack is also an alien being who is unable to go home. The alien then disappears into the ocean, never to be heard from again.
