The Girl Who Dared is a 1944 mystery thriller directed by Howard Bretherton. Ann Carroll (Lorna Gray), along with a hodgepodge of her family and friends, receives an invitation to the home of Beau (John Hamilton) and Chattie (Vivien Oakland) Richmond on a secluded island to take part in a mysterious ghost hunt. According to legend, pirates once used the island as a hiding place for their treasure, and the island is still haunted with an air of foreboding mystery. Once Ann and her entourage arrive at the Richmond residence, the couple denies having invited them. Personalities quickly clash, old arguments flare up, and a murder quickly follows. After discovering that the phone lines have been cut and their cars have been sabotaged, the group realizes that they've been cut off from the mainland. But is the murderer one of the visitors, one of the Richmonds, or is there another person on the island with them? It's up to Ann to investigate the crime, sort through the evidence, and identify the mastermind behind not only the murders, but also the mysterious invitation.moreless
