The Glass Shield is a 1994 crime drama about Deputy John Johnson (Michael Boatman), often known by J.J., his nickname. J.J. has the honor of being the first African American deputy at his Los Angeles station. Although he feels proud to be serving his city, J.J. does not always experience acceptance from his fellow deputies. Determined not to lose faith because of racial discrimination, J.J. continues doing the best job he can. He finds an ally in the form of Deputy Deborah Fields (Lori Petty). Since she is the only woman at the station, Deborah is able to bond with J.J. and share in some of his frustrations. Life at the station turns even grimmer when J.J. starts to uncover strange and corrupt behavior. During the investigation of Terry Wood's murder (Ice Cube), J.J. starts to suspect that his fellow officers have hidden a history of corrupt treatment of minorities. J.J. may have to risk everything to stand up for his beliefs.
