The Glory Guys is the 1965 Western film based on the novel The Dice of God by Hoffman Birney. The screenplay was written by legendary Western screenwriter Sam Peckinpah, who had completed his screenplay years before it finally was made into a film. The fictional tale is based on the Battle of Little Big Horn, and George Armstrong Custer's 7th Cavavalry Regiment's involvement in the fight. We join the journey of misfits Demas Harrod (Tom Tryon) and Sol Rogers (Harve Presnell) as they join the cavalry of General McCabe (Andrew Duggan). The cavalry resides in the post-Civil War West, where McCabe is after the blood of the Apache tribe. Set to destroy them all, he is willing to sacrifice his men to reach his goal. Along the way, Harrod and Rogers fight for their lives while also romancing the same frontier woman. The film was made in Durango, Mexico, with large-scale production featuring large numbers of extras and a final battle scene which was fought on 20,000 acres of land.moreless
