Movie Summary

Richard Dreyfuss ("Mr. Holland's Opus," "Close Encounters") won a Best Actor Oscar for his performance in Pulitzer Prize-winner Neil Simon's ("The Odd Couple," "Biloxi Blues") warmest romantic comedy. Dreyfuss is an eccentric young actor forced to share an apartment with a recently divorced Broadway dancer (Academy Award-nominee Marsha Mason, "Cinderella Liberty," "Chapter Two") and her precocious 9-year-old daughter (Quinn Cummings, who also garnered a nomination for her role). After some initial battles, opposites attract and love blooms amid the witty rapport. This top-grossing hit was directed by Herbert Ross ("Steel Magnolias," "Footloose"), and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture of 1977. Recently selected by the prestigious American Film Institute as one of the 400 greatest American films of all time.moreless
