The Gorgon (1964) is one of the more bizarre Hammer horror films. The myths of ancient Greece tell of a race of females creatures with writhing, venomous snakes for hair. People unfortunate enough to meet the terrifying gaze of a Gorgon were immediately frozen in place and turned into stone. At the beginning of the 20th century, a village in an unidentified Eastern European country is the scene of strange deaths suggesting that a Gorgon has somehow arrived in the area. The police refuse to investigate, for fear of the supernatural. When one victim is wrongfully accused of murdering his girlfriend (also dead), his father sets out to clear the boy's name by doing what everyone else is too afraid to do - hunting down the Gorgon and exposing the monster to the public. But when he, too, dies, the investigation becomes more complex and tragic.
