The Gospel Road: A Story of Jesus is a 1973 movie about the life of Jesus Christ written and produced by country music legend Johnny Cash. The Man In Black's version of the story includes 15 original songs performed by Cash, as well as other country music stars such as John Denver, as a soundtrack to the film. Some of the titles include: "I See Men as Trees Walking," "Jesus Was a Carpenter," "He Turned the Water Into Wine", "The Burden of Freedom," and "Lord, Is It I?" It was filmed on location in Israel, and features Robert Elfstrom in the starring role, memorably portraying Hollywood's only blonde Jesus. Johnny Cash's wife June Carter Cash also appears as Mary Magdalene, and Paul Smith as Peter. While there have been many cinematic retellings of the story of Christ, this version stands out because of the amazing musical talent that went into creating it.
