The Great Buck Howard is a 2009 road comedy about a long past his prime lounge act and his befuddled assistant. Troy Gable (Colin Hanks) decides to drop out of law school in spite of his father's (Tom Hanks) vast disappointment. Instead, Troy loves show business and takes a job as the personal assistant to "The Great Buck Howard" (John Malkovich). Buck was once a favorite guest on "The Tonight Show," but those days are long gone. He's bitter, demanding and painfully unfunny. Troy's job is to follow Buck on his cross-country bus tour of places likes Hicksville and Akron. While Valerie Brennan (Emily Blunt), Buck's publicist, and his manager, Gil Bellamy (Ricky Jay), try to resuscitate Buck's career, Troy learns the real world of entertainment, from fetching water to carrying bags and enduring the tantrums of a larger-than-life ego. Along the way, many real-life celebrities make cameo appearances as themselves, including Martha Stewart, Jon Stewart, Conan O'Brien, Jay Leno and magician David Blaine.
