The Great Race, directed by the comedic genius Blake Edwards, brings us to the turn of the 20th century. Here, the Webber Motor Company is trying to figure out how to market their new automobiles to an uneducated marketplace. The Great Leslie (Tony Curtis), a daredevil of great wealth, proposes a race from New York to Paris. This route is intended to go west across America and over the Bering Strait to Russia to help publicize and sell automobiles to the public. When word of this reaches Professor Fate (Jack Lemmon), the long-time rival of The Great Leslie, hilarity ensues! These two are joined by Maggie DuBois (Natalie Wood), who is the editor of a prominent New York City newspaper, along with some others. The six car race begins, promising action, song and dance, love, laughs, and what would come to be known as "the greatest pie fight scene ever". This movie is sure to keep the whole family in stitches.moreless
