The Green Promise is a 93 minute American film, released in 1949. Directed by William D. Russell, it tells the story of Mr. Mathews (Walter Brennan), an old-stubborn farmer and his four children, whom he raises by himself. As an old farmer, he detests modernity and refuses to heed any suggestions of how to improve his farm using modern farming technologies. He strongly believes that no technology can outdo his old traditional farming practices. His eldest teenage daughter falls in love with a local boy, and is torn between her new-found love and her father's expectation to work in the farm. Mr. Mathews goes berserk when he learns that his eldest daughter has found herself a suitor, and his youngest one has joined a 4-H club. However, he gets injured and is unable to continue working in his farm. His eldest daughter takes over the management of the farm, and goes ahead to incorporate new farming technologies. Mr. Mathews finally changes his farming perspectives when the farm becomes a great success through the new techniques.moreless
