The Hand that Rocks the Cradle is the 1992 domestic thriller that was one of the first breakout hits for future acclaimed director Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential, Wonder Boys, The River Wild, 8 Mile). When Claire Bartel's (Annabella Sciorra) gynecologist Dr. Victor Mott sexually abuses her during an exam, she brings a lawsuit against him which he knows he can't win. To this end, he takes his own life, much to the shock and dismay of his beautiful wife (Rebecca DeMornay). Shattered by this blow to her family life, she vows revenge on those who have wronged them, namely Claire and her family, which has now expanded to include their mentally handicapped gardener Solomon. Under the guise of Peyton Flanders, the Mott better half begins a campaign to turn Bartel family against Claire ' working on her husband Michael (Matt McCoy) and her daughter Emma to gain control of the unit so that she may destroy it more efficiently.
