The Hawk is Dying is a 2006 drama about an auto upholsterer, George Gattling (Paul Giamatti), who lives with his sister, Precious (Rusty Schwimmer), and her autistic son, Fred (Michael Pitt). George's hobby is capturing wild hawks and taming them, an interest most of his friends find strange, but an interest that is also shared by Fred. In addition, George has an ongoing relationship with a burned-out psychology student, Betty (Michelle Williams), the daughter of a doctor who lives in a trailer park and spends most of days sucking on a bong. When Betty is put in charge of watching Fred one night, while George and Precious attend a party, Fred accidentally drowns in his waterbed. This sets George off on a mission to tame the latest wild hawk Fred and he captured the night before the tragedy. What is George's fascination with this hawk and can it soothe his troubled psyche? The Hawk is Dying is based on a 1973 book by Harry Crews and is directed by Julian Goldberger.moreless
