The History Makers: Courage is the third in a series about distinguished figures of African-American history, released in 2005. The stories of Harry Belafonte, Vernon Jordan, and Nikki Giovanni among others recount standing up for crucial belief against unbelievable odds and social pressure. When society tried to maintain an oppressive racist front, key leaders and artists stood up to protest. Because of the distinguished careers of the men and women featured here, their voices were heard and eventually lead to the toppling of evil ideologies. Angela Davis tells the story of civil-rights activism and B.B. King reveals the way music lead him to a lifestyle he could never have otherwise achieved in a racist society. From the fight against oppressive laws in the U.S. to the anti-Apartheid movement in South Africa, great names made history. The result is a video that is full of inspiration, wisdom, and the kind of valor that only comes through suffering and endurance.
