The Hole, also known as El Agujero, is a 1997 low-budget Mexican dramatic thriller directed by Beto Gomez and written by Rabdul Fez, which tells the story of the people of a small Mexican town who struggle with crime, unemployment and severe alcohol addiction. El Pachuco (Roberto Cobo) has spent several years working hard in the United States to make some money and perhaps build a better future for himself. However, when he returns to Patzcuaro, his home town in Mexico, he has no reason to be optimistic and enthusiastic. His family, friends and neighbors are desperate and poor due to the lack of jobs and their passion for tequila. After a wild party, a group of drunk men, including Pachuco and his friend Chavita (Jose Luis Pimentel), are arrested and imprisoned until further legal action. There is nothing really one can do behind bars but tell stories about how they ended up in such a desperate situation and think about the hopeless future.moreless
