The Horse Whisperer centers around the story of Grace MacLean (Scarlett Johansson) and her horse, Pilgrim. Both are severely traumatized in a riding accident; Grace has part of her leg amputated, and Pilgrim is so uncontrollable that the MacLeans are advised that the horse be put down. Grace's mother, Annie (Kristin Scott Thomas), refuses to let the horse be euthanized because she believes the recovery of Pilgrim and Grace are intertwined. Annie searches for a horse whisperer to heal Pilgrim's traumatized spirit, and consequently, Grace's depression over the accident. She finds Tom Booker (Robert Redford), he agrees, and Annie, Grace and Pilgrim must travel to a remote Montana farm to begin the process. Grace and Pilgrim slowly begin to heal, but during the process Annie starts to fall in love with Tom. When her husband (Sam Neill) shows up to check on the progress of Grace and Pilgrim, he can tell that Annie is in love with Tom. The Horse Whisperer is a complex and emotional film that examines sadness, love, commitment and honor.moreless
