2003
Rating:
PG-13
The Hot Chick is story of a mean-spirited and popular high school girl who wakes up one day in the body of a 30-year-old man. Jessica (Rachel McAdams) is used to getting her way, and one day she sees some old, antique earrings that she wants. The earrings are not for sale, so Jessica steals them. What she doesn't know is that these earrings hold mystical powers that allow people to change bodies. The next day she wakes up as Clive (Rob Schneider), a career criminal, who is a gross old man. Clive, of course, is now in Jessica's body and he uses his newfound gift to go on a crime spree that will be blamed on Jessica. Jessica must find her way to Clive, so the two can switch their bodies back to their original state. Will Jessica learn a lesson about appearances that lessens her cruel attitude? How will she switch bodies back with Clive?

Metacritic Score

  • 40

    Los Angeles Times Kevin Thomas

As for Schneider, he may be obnoxious and unhandsome, but he is, more important, talented and fearless, the driving force of this brash, not-so-predictable comedy.

  • 30

The New York Times Stephen Holden

Rob Schneider runs an obstacle course of taste and emerges remarkably unsullied, considering the choices he faces.

  • 30

    Variety Dennis Harvey

At best routinely assembled -- at worst barely competent. The slapstick is labored, and the bigger setpieces flat.
