The House of God

Movie Summary

Director:
Donald Wrye
Released:
1984
Rating:
R
The House of God a satiric film. Director Donald Wrye focuses on the mental and physical abuse that medical students undergo during residency, and shows it in a comedic light. It is based on a book of the same name, written by Samuel Shem during his years as a resident in a psychiatric ward. The film stars Dr. Roy Basch (Steve Mathison), a young intern who just recently completed his studies at BMS -- a highly regarded medical school. He starts his residency at the local hospital, called The House of God, completely unprepared for the many challenges that lay ahead. He is straddled with the sudden responsibility of caring for a multitude of patients and running a section of the ward. His superiors give him absolutely no guidance, and Basch is forced to work harder than he ever expected to -- all this in the hopes of getting a grip on life as a doctor and making it through this grueling residency in one piece.moreless
