The Hudsucker Proxy is a comedy about a recent college graduate who is put in charge of a massive company. After finishing school, Norville Barnes (Tim Robbins) gets a job working in the mail room at Hudsucker Industries. After the president of the company commits suicide, Norville is tapped by a scheming member of the board of directors to run the company. The board member, Sidney J. Mussburger (Paul Newman), is trying to gain control of the company and decides that hiring an incompetent president will depress the price of the company's stock and allow him to buy a controlling interest. What Sidney doesn't count on is that Norville will invent the hula hoop, driving the price of the company's stock into the stratosphere and making Norville the most famous company president in the country. Will Sidney find a way to sabotage Norville or will the guileless young man succeed in trumping his greedy scheme?
