The Hurricane, set in the south seas, stars John Hall as Terangi, a wrongfully imprisoned Pacific island native. Soon after he marries Marama (Dorothy Lamour), the beautiful daughter of the chief (Al Kikume), Terangi (the first mate of his ship) leaves on a voyage to Tahiti. Upon arrival, the crew heads to a bar to celebrate. When a racist man tells the ship's crew to leave, Terangi hits him breaking his jaw. The man has strong political ties to the governor who sentences Terangi to six months in jail. Back home a man by the name of Dr. Kersaint (Thomas Mitchell) begs the French governor to let Terangi serve his sentence on parole but he refuses. After many failed escape attempts, Terangi's sentence is increased to over 16 years. After eight years he escapes but while trying to free himself he accidentally kills a guard. Terangi steals a canoe and begins the trip home but when bad luck and bad weather meet, he is in the fight for his and his family's life.moreless
