The Hustler, a 1961 drama about pool players. stars Paul Newman in one of his most iconic performances. Arrogant and confident, "Fast" Eddie Felson (Newman) makes his living as a pool hall hustler taking advantage of naive players. He tries to improve his status and prove he's the best at the game by challenging the legendary Minnesota Fats (Jackie Gleason) to a high-stakes match. Eddie loses both the all-night game and his confidence. He meets Sarah Packard (Piper Laurie), and the two lonely souls share a life of drinking and forgetting the past until Bert Gordon (George C. Scott), a ruthless gambler, offers Eddie the chance to regain his position and take on Minnesota Fats in another marathon game. Directed by Robert Rossen, this dark, haunting drama captures the underbelly of the American dream. It received 9 Oscar nominations.
