Dr. Bruce Banner is happily in love with his girlfriend, Betty Ross, who is the daughter of General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. Through his relationship with Betty, Dr. Banner becomes involved in a military scheme to create supersoldiers. Unfortunately, for Dr. Banner he is permanently affected by his experiments for General Ross, and decides he must flee for his safety and the safety of others. General Ross is unable to track Banner down, but he does not give up hope on his project. Meanwhile, Dr. Banner is trying to find an antidote for the condition his experiment caused with little success. When British Royal Marine Emil Blonsky tracks Banner down, Bruce is horrified to discover someone else has been infected with the same condition he is facing.
Major Kathleen Sparr
Ross: I need to know where they're going. She'll be in incredible danger as long as she's with him.
Leonard: From who? He protected her. You almost killed her.
Blonsky: (speaking with General Ross) I've ran into bad situations on crap missions before. I've seen good men go down purely because someone didn't let us know what we were walking into. I've moved on to the next one because that's what we do, right? That's the job. But this? This is a whole new level of weird. I don't feel inclined to step away from it. So if you're taking another crack at him, I want in. And, with respect, you should be looking for a team that's prepped and ready to fight, because if that thing shows up again, you're gonna have a lot of professional tough guys pissing in their pants. Sir.
Blonsky: You know, if I could take what I know now, put into the body I had ten years ago, that would be someone I wouldn't want to fight.
Ross: I could probably arrange something like that.
Hulk: Hulk smash!
Blonsky: I want what you got out of Banner. I want that.
Sterns: You look like you've got a little something inside you already, don't you?
Blonsky: I want more. You've seen what he becomes, right?
Sterns: I have. And it's beautiful. Godlike.
Blonsky: Well, I want that. I need that. Make me that.
Sterns: I don't know what you've got inside you already. The mixture could be an abomination. (Blonsky picks up Sterns with one hand) I didn't say I was unwilling.
Cabot: Are you telling me you can make more like him?
Sterns: No! Not yet. I sorted out a few pieces, but it's not like I can put together the same Humpty Dumpty, if that's what your asking. He was a freak accident! The goal is to do it better!
Betty: I will never forgive what you've done to him.
Ross: He's a fugitive
Betty: You made him a fugitive to cover you failures and protect your career. Don't ever speak to me as your daughter again.
Greller: How you feeling, man?
Blonsky: Like a monster.
Sterns: (after meeting Bruce) A person with that much power lurking in him. Nothing could have surprised me more than this unassuming man shaking my hand.
Betty: It's a long way uptown. I think the subway's probably quickest.
Bruce: Me, in a metal tube, deep underground, with hundreds of people in the most aggressive city in the world?
Betty: Right. Let's get a cab.
