The Inner Circle is a 1946 mystery directed by Philip Ford. Johnny Strange (Warren Douglas) is a private investigator in need of a new secretary. When a beautiful young woman going by the name of Gerry Smith (Adele Mara) breezes into his office before he can even finish the help wanted ad and pretty well assigns herself the job, Johnny just goes along with it. She takes over right away and soon gets a call from a woman who wants to meet Johnny that evening. When Johnny arrives at the designated meeting spot, the mysterious woman who has a Spanish accent leads him to a house that contains a dead body and proceeds to knock him out. When he comes to, he finds himself in the company of Detective Lieutenant Webb (William Frawley), who tells him that the dead man is a well-known gossip columnist for a popular radio show. Now Johnny must find the real killer and clear his name before the killer strikes again.moreless
