The Invincible Gladiator is a 1961 Italian action film that returns to the glory and horror of the Roman arena. Rezius (Richard Harrison) is a Roman warrior who is wrongly imprisoned during the rule of a self-absorbed Caesar. Rezius quickly realizes that he has no choice but to fight for his survival for the entertainment of the crowds. The promise of freedom is offered to the precious few gladiators who are able to best all of their competitors and maintain the status of champion for the allotted time. Rezius defeats all who come after him, but as he rises through the ranks of competitors, it seems as though the evil Emperor will not grant freedom to anyone. Now a group of conspirators rises up led by an unnamed saboteur (Tomas Blanco). Rezius grows so angry in the arena that he hurls a sword end over end at the Emperor and actually ends up killing an assassin instead. This fortunate turn gives Rezius a chance for escape, but he may not be able to leave without taking his longed-for revenge.
