The Island is a 1980 adventure thriller about the Bermuda triangle and modern-day pirates. Journalist Blair Maynard (Michael Caine) wants to solve the baffling mysteries of disappearing yachts and passengers in the Caribbean. He and his 12-year old son Justin (Jeffrey Frank) travel from Florida to the Caribbean to investigate the story. While out on a fishing expedition, the two Maynards are kidnapped by an inbred crew of pirates. Led by John David Nau (David Warner), these buccaneers speak and act as if it was still the 18th century, as they have remained isolated from the outside world. Rather than kill Maynard, they want him to replenish their gene pool with one of their women. To make sure that he goes along with their plans, they brainwash young Justin into joining their looting gang. Michael Ritchie ("The Bad News Bears") directs this scenic drama with a script by Peter Benchley ("Jaws").
