The Jilting of Granny Weatherall is a 1980 drama directed by Randa Haines and based on the short story of the same name by Katherine Anne Porter. Granny Weatherall (Geraldine Fitzgerald) seems like a strong and bossy woman. At 80 years old, she is still tough enough to command those around her and get her own way in most matters. All the same, when she lets herself reminisce about her life as a younger woman, Granny Weatherall cannot let go of one painful memory that affected her entire future. Six decades ago, she stood at an altar, waiting to marry the man she loved. However, her fiance, George (Richard Dow), stood her up. Now surrounded by her daughter (Lois Smith) and her doctor (Fred Coffin), many years later, Granny Weatherall tries to accept her life without George, but finds that the original rejection has shaped the way she views herself. On her deathbed, the elderly matriarch tries to find peace and forgiveness for an event that everyone else has forgotten.moreless
