The Journey is a 1997 comedy drama from director Harish Saluja. The film explores the evolution of family relationships. Kishan Sing (Roshan Seth), a widower and retired school headmaster, decides to leave India and relocate to America to live with his son Raj, a Pittsburgh's physician, and Raj's elitist wife, Laura (Carrie Preston). Consumed by their own lives and pursuits, the couple have rare interactions with their only child, Jenny (Nora Bates). When Kishan moves into their home, however, his influence colors the day-to-day interactions within the family. Laura complains that her father-in-law is a male chauvinist and finds his personal habits, such as untidiness, annoy her and bring chaos into her overly-ordered life. Meanwhile, a bond quickly develops between Jenny and Kishan. Jenny has never known the personal care and attention her grandfather now provides. He reads to her regularly and starts teaching her invaluable life lessons. Jenny begins to realize that he is filling a void left by her parents and babysitter.moreless
