The Karate Kid

Columbia Pictures Released 1984

Movie Summary

The Karate Kid is the classic 1984 martial arts film starring Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, a brave kid from New Jersey who's having trouble adjusting to his new home in Los Angeles. The merciless students of a local dojo beat him up whenever they have the chance, and Daniel knows too little of fighting to defend himself. After being rescued from a beating by the kind-hearted karate master Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita), Daniel begins training under the tutelage of the unconventional but highly knowledgeable sensei. Soon, a formal fight with the toughest fighter of the militaristic Cobra Kai dojo is arranged. Daniel only has two months to learn enough karate to defeat his opponent. This acclaimed film comes from director John G. Avildsen, who previously found fame directing another underdog story, Rocky. The Karate Kid is a thrilling coming-of-age story about one boy's journey to maturity and the unlikely father figure who leads him there.moreless
