Movie Summary

Director:
Peter Berg
Released:
2007
Rating:
R
The Kingdom is a thriller set in modern-day Saudi Arabia. Starring Jamie Foxx from Ray, Any Given Sunday, and Collateral and Jennifer Garner from Daredevil, Pearl Harbor, and Alias as FBI agents sent to investigate a bombing eerily similar to a real life attack in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This movie mixes a taut action-filled plot with a mystery about who is really the good guy. Agent Fleury's (Foxx) friend was killed in the attack, and Agent Mayers (Garner) are obstructed by high ranking officials in both the Saudi and American governments. They are aided by a Saudi official who is a great help but also seems sinister. The official helps to cut through red tape and translate, but Fleury, Mayers, and their team are never quite sure if they can trust him. The investigators find a closely held secret and are later attacked. Three Kings is directed by Peter Berg from The Last Seduction and Smokin' Aces.

The result is a slick, brutishly effective genre movie: "Syriana" for dummies. Which is not entirely a put-down.

A realist thriller that mixes crowd-pleasing mayhem with provocative politics.
