The Landlord is a romance drama film that focuses on the problems that occur when a white man falls for a black woman. Elgar Enders (Beau Bridges) is a young man who is financially supported by his wealthy parents. He makes the decision to purchase an urban tenement, evict the tenants and build a home for himself. However, when Elgar gets to know the tenants, he becomes fond of them and decides to let them stay. To the dismay of his parents, he fixes up the building and becomes the landlord. When Elgar meets Lanie (Marki Bey) at a black club, he immediately falls for her. Lanie is of Irish and Black decent, which causes a lot of criticism for Elgar. Lanie and Elgar's relationship becomes more strained when a woman comes forward with a shocking announcement, one that will forever change Elgar's life.
