The Last Continent is a 2007 documentary directed by Jean Lemire. A group of scientists, filmmakers and sailors agree to leave the civilized world behind and spend 430 days sailing the Antarctic waters in their ship the Sedna IV. They hope to document how global warming has damaged Antarctica. Actor Donald Sutherland narrates the group's voyage as they encounter chilling evidence of the changing ecosystem. Ice floes have disappeared, leaving seals with nowhere to birth their calves. The harsh climate plays a major role in the film, with the group's lives continuously threatened by the unforgiving nature of the Antarctic environment. The crew struggles to keep their ship together as violent winds threaten to tear apart their ship and leave them stranded on the icy continent. The Last Continent gives viewers a chance to witness the beauty of one of the last untouched areas of the world before it is wiped out by global warming.
