The Last Frontier is a 1955 Western drama directed by Anthony Mann. The film follows Jed Cooper (Victor Mature), a backwoods trapper who enlists as a scout at a remote Army fort on the Oregon frontier. Jed falls in love with Corinna Marston (Anne Bancroft), but he cannot pursue a romance because she is already married to Colonel Frank Marston (Robert Preston), the commander of the neighboring fort. After an Indian raid wipes out Colonel Marston's troops, he relocates to Jed's fort and assumes command of the soldiers there. Hoping to make a name for himself and achieve legendary status, Marston plans a bold retaliatory attack on the Indian warriors. When Jed discovers that the mission is destined to end in a catastrophic failure, he realizes he can have the woman of his dreams if he allows her husband to lead his comrades into certain doom. With his own future and his friends' lives on the line, Jed must decide what matters most to him. The Last Frontier is a compelling drama that tests the power of love against the strength of loyalty.moreless
