The Lawless is a 1950 black and white film directed by Joseph Losey. The movie deals with race relations between wealthy white residents and the poor Mexican-American migrant workers in California. The film deals with a very controversial issue in attempting to show the harsh lives of the migrant workers under their abusive bosses. Larry Wilder (Macdonald Carey) is a former big city newsman who is trying to settle down into an easy life as a small-town newspaper editor. Mr. Wilder's life gets disrupted when he comes to the defense of a young Latino worker who gets into a violent clash with some rich white boys at a dance. Along with the aid of Sunny Garcia (Gail Russell) who is a Spanish reporter, Mr. Wilder attempts to find the truth of the situation and save this young man's life. Mr. Wilder also finds himself faced with violence, because he is the only white citizen helping the Latino worker. With great personal risk, he will try to see that true justice gets done and a life is saved.moreless
