The Lonely Guy is a 1984 comedy about a writer who has difficulty having relationships with women. Larry Hubbard (Steve Martin) appears to be living the perfect life. He is a successful greeting card writer who lives with a loving girlfriend. His world falls apart one day, though, when he comes home to find his girlfriend in bed with another man. Newly single, he goes on numerous dates with women, but nothing ever seems to work out. One day he meets Iris (Judith Ivey) and falls for her instantly. Iris, however, does not share the same feelings for him. Despondent, Larry spends his days writing a book called "A Guide for the Lonely Guy." The book becomes a huge success and Larry's luck with women changes overnight after he appears on a series of nationally televised talk shows. Initially skeptical of him, Iris begins to have second thoughts, but will their relationship work now that Larry has his choice of dozens of women?moreless
