The Long Shot is a 2004 family drama about second chances. Annie Garrett (Julie Benz) follows her husband, Ross (John Livingston), to yet another new job, this time in California. When Ross loses out on the job, he abandons Annie and their seven-year-old daughter Taylor (Gage Golightly) in Northern California. Annie has her daughter and a horse named Tolo to look after, and luckily finds a spot at Shamrock Farms. The stud farm owner, Mary Lou O'Brian (Marsha Mason), offers her the opportunity to work as a ranch hand, as well as groom and train the other horses. She also meets a kind veterinarian, Guido Levits (Paul Le Mat). When a local dressage competition offers a $20,000 purse, Annie has the chance to use her equestrian skills to make a better life. Once a champion, Annie will have to face tragic memories from childhood, as well as an unexpected illness of her horse, Tolo, to return to the winner's circle.
