The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King: Extended Edition contains the original Academy-Award-winning conclusion to Peter Jackson's Lord of the Ring's trilogy, with an extended run time of 252 minutes and all-new editing, special effects, and music. The first two installments of the trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring and the Twin Towers, thrilled viewers with their spectacular depiction of one young Hobbit on a dangerous quest to destroy a powerful weapon, and the friends who help him along his way. In Return of the King, the stage is set for the thrilling conclusion, as Frodo, Sam, and Smeagol venture towards Minas Morgul where Frodo must destroy the One Ring. Meanwhile, Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and Frodo's other allies prepare in their own ways for the coming war of good versus evil. Elijah Wood returns as Frodo, the tortured young hero. Sean Astin plays Samwise Gamgee, Frodo's loyal friend. Viggo Mortenson, Ian McKellen, Dominic Monaghan, and Orlando Bloom also reprise their roles. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King won all eleven Academy Awards it received nominations for, including Best Picture.moreless
