The Madwoman of Chaillot is a satirical drama about a group of rich, greedy men in Paris, France, who are bent on increasing their already substantial fortunes by any means necessary. The General (Paul Henreid), The Commisar (Oscar Homolka), The Chairman (Yul Brenner) and The Prospector (Donald Pleasance) are told that there is an oil reservoir buried beneath the Paris streets. The men race to secure the oil rights whether the Parisian people agree or not. When Countess Aurelia, the Madwoman of Chaillot (Katherine Hepburn), gets wind of the plot from an activist, Roderick (Richard Chamberlain), she attempts to fight the efforts. Countess Aurelia enlists the help of other women including Constance, The Madwoman of Passy (Margaret Leighton), Gabrielle, The Madwoman of St. Sulpice (Giulietta Masina) and Josephine, The Madwoman of La Concord. The men are put on trial in Aurelia's basement and their fate is left in the hands of the people.
