The Magic Sword is the 1962 midieval fantasy adventure feature directed by Bert l. Gordon, starring Gary Lockwood (of 2001: A Space Odyssey fame) and Anne Helm, and is available from United Artists. B-movie director Bert l. Gordon presents the story of young knight Sir George (Lockwood), of royal blood, who embarks on a quest to save his kidnapped love Princess Helene (Helm) from the evil wizard Lodac (Basil Rathborne) and the hungry jaws of his dragon. He steels a magic sword, armor and horse from his good witch mother and embarks on the rescue mission with a group of brave knights. The film references St. George and his biblical battle vs. a dragon. Many of the characters are based on and named after biblical saints. The Magic Sword was also on an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000, where in rare form for the program, the film was deemed entertaining and actually watchable on its own.
