The Maker is a 1997 crime drama directed by Tim Hunter. Josh (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is a typical high schooler, except for his penchant for crime. Along with his friend, Bella (Fairuza Balk), he finds ways to carry out petty crimes to keep his life a little more exciting. Things soon escalate from stealing mail to experimenting with drugs. Although Josh cares for his adoptive parents, Mr. Minnell (Lawrence Pressman) and Mrs. Minnell (Kate McGregor-Stewart), he often wonders what happened to his original family. Unexpectedly, Josh's life is turned upside down when his older brother, Walter (Matthew Modine), comes to seek him out. It seems that Josh's taste for crime and danger is a family trait. It turns out that Walter has some dark secrets that he cannot wait to share with his only living relative. Wanting to find out more about his past, Josh lets himself be drawn deeper and deeper into Walter's plans.
