The Mangler is a 1995 horror film that is based on the Stephen King novel with the same name. The story begins in a small town's laundromat called Gartley's Blue Ribbon Laundry Service which is owned by Bill Gartley (Robert Englund). One day Bill's niece, Sherry (Vanessa Pike), cuts herself on one of the machines, referred to as the Mangler, when she is accidently pushed by a delivery man bringing in ice. At the same time that Sherry's hand starts to bleed, the ice also lands on the machine causing sparks to fly. Later in the day, an older lady comes into the laundromat to use the Mangler and drops her antacids inside the machine. The combination of blood, ice and antacids seem to have an adverse effect on the machine, and people start dying from injuries caused by the Mangler. After much investigation, police officer John Hunton (Ted Levine) and his brother-in-law, Mark (Daniel Matmor), believe that an exorcism may be their only option to stop the Mangler.moreless

Lame and clunky in many places which doesn't manage to save this bizarre premise from dull absurdity.

Plodding and virtually plotless (employee gets caught in maw of machine, blood squirts, boss tells everyone to get back to work, employee gets caught in maw of machine...), The Man...

The Mangler is one of the worst movies we've seen in years, and we've seen a lot of movies. [6 Mar 1995, p.5C]
