PG-13
The Marine is the popular 2006 action drama directed by John Bonito (Carjacked) and featuring one of the world's premiere wrestling superstars in his action packed acting debut. Honorably discharged for disobeying a direct order to wait for back up, instead entering the line of fire to rescue soldiers on his own, John Triton (John Cena), a marine of high standing, returns home. A gig as a security guard goes badly on the first day and so John and the missus, Kate (Kelly Carlson) go on a trip to the mountains but come across a crime as it is erupting at a gas station, resulting in a cop shot. Rome (Robert Patrick) is the leader of a group who robs a jewel store, carrying away millions of dollars worth of diamonds. This team is the one behind the murder of three people at the gas station, kidnapping Kate, nearly killing John in an explosion. Rome will learn the hard way how unfortunate his kidnapping Kate was. No matter what Rome and his hired guns do, John keeps coming. Van Buren (Jerome Ehlers) is a cop in charge of capturing Rome, but he just might have other reasons for catching him.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 50

    Los Angeles Times

The Marine is bad in just the right way, a mindless throwaway that's at least smart enough not to take itself too seriously.

  • 50

    Variety Joe Leydon

Junky, jokey and sometimes both at once, pic marks yet another attempt by World Wrestling Entertainment to establish one of its burly superstars as a movie lead.

The New York Times Nathan Lee

Co-starring as Rome, the ringleader with "intimacy issues," Robert Patrick appears to be enjoying himself. That makes one of us.
