Movie Summary

Director:
Mick Davis
Released:
2010
Rating:
PG-13

The Match is a romantic comedy about the ups and downs of Scottish soccer. Although Wullie (Max Beesley) has athletic talent, the death of his brother has left Wullie insecure and anxious. He works as the milkman in Inverdoune, a Scottish town that looks beautiful but lacks much excitement. The locals have to invent their own entertainment: the patrons of quirky Benny's Bar root for one team, while the patrons of the much fancier L'Bistro root for the opposing team. The two soccer teams are engaged in a long-running series of matches. If the Benny's Bar team cannot manage to win one last match, then L'Bistro's owner, Gorgeous Gus (Richard Grant), will transform Benny's Bar into a parking lot. Wullie is rooting for Benny's Bar, but he is also distracted by his secret love for Rosemary (Laura Fraser), a driven young woman who is about to leave Inverdoune and see the world. If Wullie cannot overcome the tragedy of his past and find his inner courage, both Rosemary and Benny's Bar could be lost to him forever.
