After talking with Ralph (Ron Randell), the head of the orphanage and learning she has no chance of adopting the baby unmarried. Ralph gives her 60 days, to produce the made up fiance Millie created on the spot, to be considered as the adoptive parents. Later she is contacted by a man, Doug Andrews (Glenn Ford) who had impressed her earlier in the week. Millie ends up sharing her story about Tommy with Doug and he agrees to help her land a husband in the timeframe Ralph gave her. Millie is succesful with her task of finding a suitable fiance for the purpose of adopting Tommy. However, this match is not her true love.
